All about the Entertainment Biz
Showing and sharing with each other our most popular and asked for face painting or show maybe a balloon, or even the most successful way of advertising. What gets you most of your first time gigs and what gets you the most repeats “there is enough gigs out there for every one” lets share our gifts with others that may be just getting started or just wants a new boost or just something new! If your expertise is organization and someone else’s is marketing maybe we can help each other .We can find out who works what area and what they do and refer them or hire them for a gig however you do it lets get to know our fellow entertainers better! And reach out to each other! I’ll be bring some resume type forms for you to fill out this is optional it’s to share with other entertainer in case they need coverage or help on any shows or events. Also come prepared lets everyone share at least one thing even if you don’t think that what you might have to share with others is important it might mean the world to someone there they might be in need for just what you share.  Also if you bought something and don't know how to us it and need help on how to use in your act/show bring it some one might be able to help you out. If you have some thing you bought at convention or any where and just don't use it or like it bring it with you to sell or give away an old costume or shoes, wigs or show props anything old magic tricks or new magic tricks face paints anything collecting dust or you don't care for or don't use maybe some one else can use it to enhance their entertaining,

Festival de los Ninos

The first night of the 4 Sunday night series of  “FESTIVAL de los NINOS” (Latino Talent Show) was on July 27 with TWINKLES d’ KLOWN, DIAMOND LIL’ & RUFFLES the clown there helping out.  And RUFFLES the clown made her “stage debut” when she went on stage with a 5-yr. old female contestant who had stage fright to calm her down.  And this past Sunday TWINKLES d’ KLOWN, POKA DOTZ , Princess-Laff-A-Lot and John Waite of the Orange County Puppetry Guild were there to help out.  We got there early and were outside of the Pearson Park Amphitheatre blowing up helium “DANIEL’S” balloons and giving them out to children and adults alike that were waiting to enter for the event.  We were SWAMPED.  And once the event started we went into the back with the contestants and “clowned around” with them to calm their “stage fright” before they went on to perform.  It worked for most of them but for some of the young ones, we clowns would walk on stage (in a clown like manner) and when the child put the microphone up to their mouth to start singing, the clowns would then go off the stage.  And we still have August 10th & August 17th left.  We need to be there by 4PM and those who can stay until 9PM – GREAT!  Pearson Park is on 401 N. Lemon Street, Anaheim, CA 92805 at the Amphitheatre.  Anyone who wants to help, I would DEFINITELY appreciate it.  More clowns’ means more help with the balloons. The last night there will be a party afterwards for the winners and the “worker bees” at La Casa Garcia Restaurant hosted by Frank Garcia.  Contact me if you can come or if you have any questions.  Pam House – Event Boss Clown! – (562) 431-5785

Hi COAI Members!

How is your International Clown Week going?  I hope you are all having fun spreading the news about what we as clowns do.  Peppermint Patti, Buttons and I were all at the Mission Viejo Symphony last Saturday, walking around, doing balloons and just having fun.  Don’t forget to save pictures in a fun package and send it in to the director of membership for COAI, Bonnie Love by October 1st.  Her address is in the front cover of the New Calliope.
Happy International Clown Week!

Clowning Around

PLEASE HELP US TO SPREAD THE WORD AND REACH OUR GOALS $80,000 and 2,000 walkers

Everyone needs to sign up on your team page, Family, friends and friendly dogs!

As a non-profit organization, it is a priority for MADD to be stewards of our resources and efforts.  With that said, during this transition of changing walk names, you may hear MADD’s walk be referred to as either Strides for Change or Walk Like MADD.  Both names refer to the walk to eliminate drunk driving.  Strides for Change is our history, and Walk Like MADD is our future.

Together we will stop drunk driving.  Walk with us.

Mark your calendars for 2008 Walk Like MADD, Saturday, September 27th!

The Great Southern California Shake-Out

“SHAKE OUT” is organized by THE EARTHQUAKE COUNTRY ALLIANCE.  This is a public-private partnership of leading earthquake professionals, emergency managers, government agencies, businesses and community leaders.  The goals of the Alliance are to educate communities on earthquake safety and recovery, increase awareness and preparedness, improve response and recovery planning and reduce losses in future earthquakes.

Local cities and counties in Southern California will take parting the scenario, which is the largest earthquake preparedness drill in California history.  The drill will test the abilities of ALL responders and provide valuable information about the effects of a big tremor.  Jonathan Fielding, director of public health and health officer for Los Angeles County, said that at the very least the “SHAKE OUT” will be a wakeup call to the Southern California residents.

IN A NUTSHELL – At 10AM Thursday, November 13, millions of Southern Californian’s will “Drop Cover & Hold On”.  Why?  An enormous earthquake is in our future and the “SHAKE OUT” drill is the chance to practice what to do when it happens.  Individual families, businesses, schools, and organizations will join firefighters; police officers and other emergency responders involved in the Southern California’s largest ever earthquake preparedness activity.  A state-sponsored weeklong series of public events is planned for November and will address the hypothetical scenario of how a magnitude 7.8 earthquake would impact the region and its resources.  For further information go to their website at : www.shakeout.org.

It does not matter if you are a member of RED NOSE RESPONSE or not as this is something EVERYONE living in earthquake country should know.  And it is the same week as the Western Regional Clown Convention in Laughlin Nevada.  But those who are going to the convention, that should not stop you from going to the website and learning everything that needs to be done anyway.  Pass this website onto your neighbors, friends co-workers and such so they can learn what needs to be done.  Your life is worth that much.   Pam House – California Red Nose Response Coordinator
