Our annual club swap meet will be held at our February
meeting. Members voted at the meeting to have our swap meet earlier
this year. Bring your cash & your treasurers to the meeting. Think
of the clowning items that you have wanted to relocate out of your
posession. Begin gathering up those items and bring them to the meeting
to sell. And also be prepared
To buy other items at the meeting. Another's "throwaway items"
may be treasures to you! Doors will open at 6:30pm. Get there when
the doors open so you can set up your area with your items to sell!
|

|

We will be starting our meeting PROMPTLY at 7PM even if
you have not arrived yet! We MUST be out of the building at 9PM and
the later we start then the meeting is cut short and the demonstrator's
time is also shortened. And with the swap meet for our February meeting,
we do need all the time we can have for our selling and buying. So,
be courteous of your fellow members. Show up to the meeting on time.
In February the door will be open at 6:30 p.m. to allow time to set
up.

Our own Vice President, Candy "BUTTERSCOTCH"
Will, did the demonstration at our January meeting. She showed us how
to put on the "LIGHT AUGUSTE" face. Many of the clowns in
the USA now have altered the look of the traditional AUGUSTE. Clowns
of America International (COAI) have embraced this new look and they
are now calling it "LITE AUGUSTE".
Candy did a demonstration which started with her own clean face and
went "step-by-step" showing us how she creates her light auguste
face. It was done in detail and was VERY VERY
Informative. President Pam took pictures along the way to show it by
"steps". Many questions were asked along the way. Those who
did not attend the meeting missed out on a great learning experience.
Members asked her if she would be willing to repeat this demonstration
at another time. Well, if we really want her to do this again, I am
sure that we can persuade her to do this just "one more time"
in the future. THANK YOU CANDY!

It is now the New Year and have you made up your CLOWN
New Years resolutions yet? YES - think of how you can do BETTER this
year in clowning. Do you need to learn more skits? How about taking
a face painting class? Do you have the thought of becoming a mime? And
are all your puppets just lying around waiting to be used? Make up a
plan on how to improve your clown character(s) this year. What do you
want to do to make yourself better as a clown? You are only as good
as you really want to be. STEP UP TO THE PLATE and make an effort this
year to improve your clown character(s). The choice is yours. And do
you have something that you do well that would be good for a demonstration
at one of our monthly meetings? We do need monthly demonstrators. Can
you do a demonstration or do you know someone that would do a good demonstration
at our monthly meeting? Let myself or one of our board members know
about this. And at the February meeting Juan will be the person that
is there from All American Balloon Supply. He will have the cash register
open for anyone who wants to purchase anything from the store. Bring
your shopping list with you. He will have the cash registers open for
anyone who wants to purchase anything from the store.
A RIDDLE: Q: What has no legs but can walk? A: A pair
of shoes.

THIS IS ANOTHER ARTICLE ABOUT TRADE SHOWS!
We are now talking about how to work with the show's theme. As illustrated
with last month's casino example, use the show or product's theme to
help you come up with fun material. Here's another example. At a seafood
festival that was held in a coastal town in the Pacific Northwest, there
were lots of different types of restaurants promoting their favorite
dishes. It was almost too easy! I made fish on fishing poles using a
260 balloon for the fish, another 1260 for the rod and a bee balloon
for the reel. I made hats and extended a fish from them. One of the
biggest hits was making a group of bubbles from a 260, clumping them
together and calling the sculpture caviar! I did some brainstorming
beyond the seafood! What else was around me?
The show was in Newberg, Oregon, the home of Keiko the whale, i.e.
Willy from the movie " Free Willy." So I made a Keiko the
whale balloon. It was great! We also made seagulls out of balloons,
which looked wonderful on top of the balloon hats. My partner did great
face painting. At the seafood show, the logo was a crab. There were
lots of people walking around with a painted crab on their faces!
So many possibilities open up when you work with the show's theme.
How about a flea circus walk-around for a flea market or antique show?
Or favorite holiday routines for a pre-seasons holiday craft show? The
ideas are endless!

The snacks for the February meeting were brought up at our January
meeting. Nobody volunteered to bring the food for the February meeting.
Again, the board then comes through in the end. At our January meeting
we had members that came through with some food. John Whiteriver,
Wendy Olson and Rose Schafer ALL brought food to last months meeting.
THANK YOU! Our club is only as good as you make it! If you want
any snacks at the February meeting, then step up to the plate and
bring some snacks to our meeting. The choice is yours. Take a stand
on your own!

WITH MORE & MORE DISASTERS HAPPENING
AROUND THE WORLD, RED NOSE RELIEF IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER.
We are getting some more assistance in another avenue. My Red Nose Relief
Medical Advisor, Lou Gordon, R.N. (Lu-C-Luv) came up with another idea.
There is a group that she is in contact with that is called BUSY HANDS.
These women make lap robes, some out of material and some with yarn.
This group gave us a large amount of lap robes during the holidays.
We gave some out at the December 17th Christmas Party for "Matthews
Kidz" at the trailer park in Garden Grove. We have also been going
to hospitals, as clowns, and give out the lap robes there also. Lou
Gordon just gave me another supply of lap robes from BUSY HANDS.
I am putting out a PLEA to our Funny Business members. If you have
or know of anyone who has material and/or yarn that they would like
to donate to BUSY HANDS, please contact me. Since Red Nose Relief is
now an "official" non-profit organization from the State of
Georgia, I can write a letter to the people donating the items mentioned
and they will be able to get a tax write off if needed. As much material
and yarn that we can donate to them, they will make that many lap robes
for Red Nose Relief. I would like to be able to give the lap robes to
homeless shelters and low-income families. If we keep BUSY HANDS supplied
with the material and yarn to make the lap robes, then we can keep homeless
shelters and low-income families supplied with the lap robes. It would
be a WIN WIN situation. - Pam House - State Red Nose Relief Coordinator
