COAI by Candy

Hello COAI members!

What a great year Clowns of America has to offer this year in Virginia!  The theme for the convention is “Your favorite Race Car Driver”!  There will be contests for decorating your tables with race car paraphernalia and the host alley is even going to be offering pace car rides around the track at $10 a ride!  The dates are April 15 through the 20th.  Any questions?  Please don’t hesitate to ask.

Also, don’t forget, if anyone is interested in getting a scholarship to any clown education offered from different organizations (not just COAI) you can send in one by March 1st for consideration.  Please check out the website at www.coai.org for all the benefits COAI has available for the membership!

           Logo Red Nose Response

WITH MORE & MORE DISASTERS HAPPENING AROUND THE WORLD, RED NOSE RESPONSE IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER.

There are now tornados in Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas.  Alabama is being threatened and other southern states also.  So far CNN said that 72 people have died.  The message was put out to Red Nose Response (RNR) clowns telling them to get involved in the tornado areas as soon as they know what is going on.  When it is daytime then the damage can be assessed.  In California we need to start taking Red Cross classes and become certified with them so we know what to do in an emergency.  During our last rainstorms, we had a tornado warning in Long Beach California.  We need to get prepared.  -Pam House

Muckethaler Center
The Orange County Puppetry Guild is planning an event for June 21, 2009.  The Classic Clowns of Whittier already wants to be involved in the event and I was asked if I could bring this up to our club to see if we want to be involved also.  The Muckethaler Estate & Cultural Center Foundation in Fullerton would be letting us use their Estate at no charge.  And they would be doing ALL of the advertising for us.  Whatever your “expertise” is, you could do it that day.  They even have a theater that we can use and an outside “park like” setting
(see: themuck.org).  If it is decided that food should be there for the people coming to the event to purchase throughout the day, the Foundation would take care of the food for us.  From 1PM – 6 or 7PM we would probably be doing our workshops & shows.  Then from 7PM – 10PM the Orange County Puppetry Guild would do an evening puppet show.

This is in the very “BEGINNING & FORMATIVE” stage so the OC Puppetry Guild is just putting out their feelers to see what other groups would also like to be involved with them to do this event.  And they are also just formulating ideas no what things we would actually want to do at the event.  The Estate’s mission is as follows:  “To provide our community experiences that stimulate creativity and imagination: and to conserve the heritage of the Muckenthaler Estate”.

We would be “volunteering” our time but we would be allowed to give out our business cards, flyers and such.  And people who would be coming to the event would see us “doing out things” and business could come from this.  I will bring it up at the meeting and people can ask me any questions.  Decide if any of you want to be involved.  – Vice-President, Pam House –
