Next meeting Monday, February 9, 2009 7PM

Please note that we have a new/old meeting place for our club. The American Legion Hall. This time it is upstairs with a lot of room and plenty of light. There is a ramp for wheelchair access.

Paula Biggio’s story telling and face painting event was a big success. We all learned some easy face-painting techniques and thoroughly enjoyed the story telling.

The program for this month is a surprise by one of our own award-winning clowns. Alma “Candy” Lemus.

Children love balloons.  Give a child a balloon & their eyes light up & a smile is on their face. They are used in routines, skits, used as props for gags & are given away as favors at parties. Careers are even built around balloons.  Here are some ideas with balloons that you can use at your next clown gig!  Enjoy & learn all that you can.  At a class I took years ago at all – American Balloon, Matt & I were talking & I came up with the term “latex engineer”.  Well. . . .??

The Laughing Balloons!  The children stand in a circle.  You say that when you toss the balloon in the air, they are to start laughing.  They are suppose to keep laughing until someone catches the balloon and then everyone must stop laughing as soon as the balloon is caught.  Whoever is still laughing when the balloon is caught they must leave the circle.  You continue on until one is left in the circle & they become the winner of the game.

Secret Messages!  There is secret messages hidden in balloons & the object is to break the balloon to get the secret message so you can follow what it says to do.  On pieces of paper you write “silly or goofy” things that the child is to act out/do.  Some examples:  jump up and down and wave their hands like they were flying like a bird; take your right hand and put it over the top of your head and try to touch your left year, make a stupid face, make a funny sound while you turn around in a circle, and so forth.  They can break the balloons by sitting on them, poking them or jumping on them, and such.  There is no winner or looser, but you tell the children you will give each one a “prize” at the end of all of your games.  You can use 260’s, 5 inch round or even heart shaped balloons.  You decide!

When Asked. . . . (1) How can you twist the balloons so fast you say, “I follow the dotted lines.  (2) When you make a giraffe you say, “why did the giraffe cross the road?  It was the chicken’s day off”!
(2) and when asked, “do the balloons break a lot”, say, “no, only once.”  (3) and if a balloon pops, pick up the balloon, hand it to a child and say, “here is a worm for you.”  (editor's note: do not give children deflated balloons) And. . . .try thinking of other quips!
