Greetings from the Prez Box

This month we will be starting the year learning about makeup and how to apply make up. We will have a Whiteface, Auguste and Tramp demonstration. We will have two people demonstrating and answering questions for you. Please bring photos of your character and let our resident experts help you by adding suggestions and answering your questions, like when to powder or how to powder, or should I use pencils or brushes? What type of makeup should I use? We will also have some makeup supplies for sale. Please feel free to bring your video cameras

Last month was our Christmas party and we had such a great time. Our special thanks to Becky Goodyear for the use of her home. There was a relaxed and festive mood all evening and that was because of our host. Thank you from each and everyone who attended and from our club. Becky has one of the nicest clown collections with a great statue of "Pickles" Thanks to everyone who attended. There was great food and some neat gifts in the exchange.

Goodbye... Last month we said good-bye to one of our members Joe Saucedo. Joe passed away December 24th from cancer. I was very blessed to have known him and was blessed to have been able to attend his Celebration Service of his going home. He is survived by his wife Alice, one son and daughter in law and one grandson and many friends and family. We will have a card at our meeting for all who wish to sign so that we as a club can present to Alice.

This Month's Clown Bio

Ann Guenther Princess Pipsqueak
As a child I clowned around for my family, but with others I was very shy. Speaking in front of the class or a group was torture and I avoided it whenever possible.

In 1998 I joined Toastmasters and learned to speak in front of a small group. In 2000 I had an opportunity to take a clown class at Leisure World and that was the beginning of Princess Pipsqueak. At first I was an Auguste face but didn't feel comfortable with my features. White Face was easier for me to apply and more of Princess Pipsqueak's personality came out. She looks angelic and she gets away with being a rascal.

Clowning has opened up a new area of my life and I love making people feel good. I clown at birthday parties, malls and anywhere else a clown is needed. Funny Business has been a great organization for me and I'm proud of the character and talent of its members.

Coming at our Next Meeting

Next month we will be having a special guest speaker from Hollywood Florida. Marcela "Mama Clown" Murda. I know many of you who attend W.R.C.A. in Laughlin had the opportunity to talk and sit in her class. Mama clown is one of the greatest face painters and all around clown in the United States and has traveled all over the world in her clowning. I look forward to a great meeting and lecture. I will have additional information at our meeting on the date and cost of the lecture as well as what the cost will be for non-members.

COAI NEWS by Candy

Last month's Christmas party was lots of fun! Thanks to Becky Goodyear for letting us come and use her home! I just wanted to let you all know how much fun I had in Laughlin this year and enjoyed bumping noses with all the Funny Business members who were there too! I took my son Jim "Colonel Mustard" with me and his concentration was mainly on balloons and balloon classes. I helped with the Junior Joey classes this year by teaching face painting to the kid clowns and skits. I also took a first place for my "Butter Genie" costume in the Character Make Up division.
Now on to COAI business. If anyone is interested in getting insurance, COAI is now offering insurance again. Please see me at the meeting if you are interested in finding out more, want an application for membership and/or if you are interested in attending the COAI convention in Corpus Christi, Texas this year. The theme is "Buccaneer Days" and there is also a new drawing coming out for each region for first time attendees of $100! I will also be running again for the Regional Vice President position and would appreciate your support. Look for my nomination letter in the New Calliope. Happy New Year to all of you and may the new year bring all of us all the clowning we can handle!
