This N' That From President Pam

It is now already July. Time flies when you are having fun. Last month we voted on having a section in the newsletter on our own club member's biographies. You are to send them to pom-pom, our newsletter editor. We want to learn about each & every one of our members. How many of you have already sent them in? YOUR CLUB IS ONLY AS GOOD AS YOU MAKE IT!

We need articles for the newsletter. Any and all interesting "tidbits" that you know or see, write them up and submit them to pom-pom. The more articles we have, the better our newsletter is.

A reminder that All-American Balloon Supply is having their annual SWAPMEET & SALE on Saturday, July 31st from 8AM to 12 noon. BE THERE FOR BARGANS GALORE!

-President Pam-

STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE . . . .WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Which one of you is "computer literate" and would really like to help the club to advance? WE NEED YOU!
I am immediate past president of Sweet Arts of Orange County. We have a club brochure that one of our members designed. It tells about the club and one of the panels is an application for membership.

I would like Funny Business to have a club brochure. I am already talking to businesses to see if they would put our brochures in their shops. I am getting a positive response. I now just need someone to "STEP UP TO THE PLATE" and volunteer to put the brochure together. As soon as someone volunteers to do the brochure, the faster we can get them into shops and build up our membership. YOUR CLUB IS ONLY AS GOOD AS YOU MAKE IT! Join in and help us!
-President Pam-

This Month

JULY DEMONSTRATOR

This month we are having "Joy" the clown. She will be teaching us "7 SIMPLE RULES FOR SUCCESSFUL CLOWNING" (subtitle is "THE PROCESS OF THINKING"). This is a MUST for all clowns. She is talking about any level of clowning and how to advance a notch or more to the next level. It is the "Psychology of performing".

And not only can you use her rules for clowning. These rules can be used for ANY profession that you are in. This is for ANYONE who wants to improve themselves in their lives.

-President Pam-

YEARLY DUES ARE UPON US!

It is now time for our yearly dues. Most who were at the last meeting renewed and paid their dues. Those who did not attend, the dues are now due for the year. Pay and enjoy each meeting and demonstration.

WHAT IS A CLOWN?

The World Book Encyclopedia defines a clown as "A comedian or buffoon in a circus. His make-up and costume are his own personal trademark, and no other clown may dress up or make up in exactly the same way.

Famous American clowns include Dan Rice, a talking and singing clown in the late 1800's. He numbered President Abraham Lincoln among his fans and personal friends. Fred Stone, Bobby Clark and Paul McCullough were circus clowns before they became stage comedians. Their success on stage is often credited to their ability to get laughs in pantomime. Lou Jacobs, Paul Jung, and Felix Adler made up as "white-face" clowns. Otto Griebling adopted a hobo type and Emmett Kelly became famous for his sad faced tramp. Clowns in other countries include the Fratellinis, the Great Grock, Popoff the Russian, Robbins the banana clown and Polidor,

P. T. Barnum, the great American promoter, remarked on the importance of clowns when he said, "Clowns are pegs used to hang circuses on."

COAI NEWS by Candy

Hello from your reelected COAI Southwest Regional VP!
Thank you to all of you have supported me and COAI these last two years. I just want to let you all know that I am always available for questions of any kind about COAI and what COAI can do to be a better organization for all clowns. I hope some of you have been putting together a package with the name of a clown for Clown of the Year. Also, anyone who is doing Clown Week in August and keeps records should consider turning in their activities to COAI by September 1st. Some great rewards are given to the winners. Check out all the activities and ideas for clowning at COAI's website at: www.coai.org
Also, if anyone knows of a junior joey or has a junior joey who is interested in learning more about Clowning, COAI, the Junior Joey committee and myself are working hard to get the Junior Joey program known. I would appreciate comments and ideas to be sent to me for the column in the New Calliope. So have them join and contact me for fun ideas!
