THE PRES SAYS by Dena

Happy almost spring! I'm looking forward to longer days and warmer - which means more outdoor activities, especially those that involve a clown. To get you ready for this "season", we'll be continuing to focus on meeting workshops designed to give you many more things to add to your clown repertoire. This month we'll feature our own Linda "Shilo / PJ" Hulet. Linda is truly at the top of her clowning career and will be sharing all about Birthday Parties. In her own words, "There are as many ways to put together a birthday party as there are clowns, from how to make your entrance to how to make your exit and everything in between. I'll talk about what to include in your party package for the amount of time you'll be there: Balloons, Face Painting, Magic and/or Games? How much can you do? Do you limit choices of balloons or face painting designs to ones that you can do quickly? To goody bag or not, do you stay for cake? How do you collect your money and run? Plus you'll see Shylo's birthday party show. Don't be left out!!!!!!" I echo her words, "don't be left out." You will not want to miss this chance to learn from one of the masters. By the way, Linda has a website you've got to see: www.pjtheclown.com - check it out!
Some of you missed last month's meeting really missed a jewel of a lecture by Ken Sands. We had a great time and Ken had us rolling in the aisles with some of his routines and we learned about his perspective on magic and performing in general. A couple of the key points that he brought up were, to make the magic effects your own by installing your personality into them and customizing the effects to your current needs, as well as doing the slights on the "off beat." Some of the effects he presented were, wax floss (cut and restored), a great mentalist effect where he has 4 persons draw something and proceeds to tell us all who drew what with apparently only his psychic abilities, how to do a "watch steal", his invisible mouse routine that is hilarious and several other effects that were quite simple to do but played big. What a great performer! Remember if you need some magic, his shop, Magic Galore and More, is in the Westminster Lanes Bowling Alley at 6471 Westminster Ave. in Westminster - (714) 891-6488.
Looking on to April, we'll be having a costume lecture by Barbi from Texas. Linda and Becky both have Barbi's costumes and rave about them. Barbi will be bringing her line of costumes and accessories, so bring your mad money. Until March 11th, see you there
