Anaheim Children's Festival

On Saturday, May 17th, from 9AM – 3PM will be the 16th Annual Anaheim Children’s Festival.  It is a program of the Anaheim Arts Council.  The purpose of the event is to introduce children to “the arts” into things a majority of the children would never be exposed to.

It is a day of FREE fun for the family that includes:  Over 65 hands-on-art activity booths sponsored by more than 20 community organizations.  TWINKELS d’ KLOWN will be there at the Orange County Puppetry Guild’s booth.  There will be a sponsor’s celebration ceremony at noon with music, children & more.  It will be held at the Center Street Promenade-Downtown Anaheim.  They have 9,000 (YES- THOUSAND) people in attendance that day.

Any clown that wants to be there can do walk arounds and since you are volunteering, you can pass out your business cards also.  Heah, volunteer jobs can turn into you getting paid gigs.  This will be my first year participating but it sounds like LOTS OF FUN!  John who heads the booth for The Orange County Puppetry Guild has been involved with this since the beginning and he has told me how rewarding it is when you see the happiness on the children’s faces and EVERYONE is having FUN!  So if any of you want to attend as clowns, I will see you there at the event.  And feel free to call me if you have any questions.  – Pam House -

COAI by Candy

Well, I'm BACK! It was exciting to take a ride in a REAL PACE CAR! Yes the COAI convention in Richmond Virginia was quite a fun filled spectacular convention! The theme party had lots of food, dancing and car racing! There were Hot Wheel races and there was even a "Pit Crew" setup where teams could compete against each other to see who could take off tires and replace them the fastest! The classes were great, the vendors had so many things to sell and the hotel was very accommodating. The special show had a wonderful speaker, "Red Hawk" where he put on a great show in full Cherokee Regalia, played the drums and sang his Cherokee tribe chants (and he is GOOD looking too!). Peachey Keene did his mountain man rendition and told some pretty funny stories. We had two junior joeys and they absorbed everything we taught like sponges. I was so proud to see them perform at the Red Nose Critique. One received a bronze medal and a sliver medal and the other received two silver medals. All in all, the convention was a big hit! I sure hope you can make it to the 2009 convention in Indiana!

Everyone should be planning for International Clown Week, planning your activities and getting your proclamations. If anyone has questions, don't hesitate to ask me!

Festival De Los Ninos

Daniels Mega Home Center in Anaheim is hosting the 4th annual Latino Talent Show that is called FESTIVAL de los NINOS, which will be held at Pearson Park (the amphitheatre) in Anaheim on four consecutive Sunday evenings from July 27th through August 17th.  Myself as TWINKLES d’ KLOWN and POM POM were there every night.  DIAMOND Lil’, POKA DOTZ, HONEY and others were there also.  The Latino Talent was FANTASTIC!  These children are very talented and worth seeing.  Ask any one of the clowns that attended the event last year.  I will be there again this year.  It runs from 5PM to 9PM and TWINKLES d’ KLOWN will get there at 4PM to be outside the Amphitheatre “doing my thing” with the early attendee’s.  And even if you can only give one hour at the beginning, that will be fine also.  Frank Garcia and La Casa Garcia Restaurant had food there for the attendee’s to purchase.  We clowns were just given food from the restaurant for our volunteering.

What we are there for is while the people are coming into the event and waiting outside the amphitheatre, we do our entertaining to keep them occupied until the “doors open” for them to go in.  I did balloons; other clowns did puppetry, face painting and/or just walk arounds.  This year Daniel’s event coordinator Juan Luna would also like us involved in the actual production on stage.  This is in the planning stages and is not decided yet what we clowns will be doing.  Last year on the last evening, the winners were each walked on stage by one of us clowns.  This time we may be involved every night with something on stage.  I will keep those who want to be involved in this event informed on what will be happening.

So, if you have any questions about the event or want to let me know that you want to be involved in the event for either just one night through even doing all four of the nights, you can contact me and let me know.  – Pam House – 562/431-5785.
