Wise Words from Wendy

This month we will have the people that went to the WRCA Convention share their new ideas with the club. I hope Candy will be here to share a little about her class too; for the ones who couldn't go.
Last Month we had Stan Edwards "Skippy Dee Klown". Stan shared with us Walk-A-Round Routines. The Rose give away, invisible dog, Briefcase, bird, Basketball, package delivery and squeaker ideas. He is really a talented guy. I personally learned a lot and enjoyed his presentations; and having two Parades to attend, it really helped. Stan told us another chair routine after class; and I'd like to see it again. Thank you, Stan for a wonderful class.
Funny Business is a life time Alley of World Clown Association and we received our certificate. We still have to send off our by laws to WCA and COAI and get our tapes. We have three tapes on Ballooning and stories with balloons to rent out to members only this month.
Rose Shaffer "Sugarplum" and Wendy Olson represented the club and Clowning Creations at the Placentia Heritage Parade; and won 2nd place. They also had a booth and showed kids how to make puppets and did hair painting. Stacey Anderson "Boo-Boo", came down and did Rose and Wendy's makeup; as they went as Hillbillies. Thanks, Boo-Boo! Sandy Olson's goat "Stary" pulled a covered wagon of hillbilly wares. This was Rose's first Parade, and gave her confidence for the one she did with Wendy in Yorba Linda's Fiesta Parade a week later. Wendy will show how she makes her puppets and stencils, for major events, to the club in December.
I was very stressed over parades and jobs; and hearing my Dad  was in the hospital.(and ended up having two stints, then open heart surgery), and my Stepdad's kidney's and heart failing; and couldn't go give them a hug. I called Mark and Tami from clowningarounddfw.com and asked if one of them could go see my Dad at any cost. Mark said he would go to S. Dallas to the VA Hospital and see my Dad at no charge. Tami was going to Tyler the next day and said, she would go give a hug for no charge and dropped off a beautiful plant at my Mom & Stepdad's. I get all chocked up when I think about how much they said they loved it. Mark and Tami always pull together for others. Mark taught me how to juggle clubs 10 or so years ago. I can’t thank them enough for the joy they brought my family. Their family has along history of clowning around from the heart.
More info on web sites and events at meeting; and have pictures of parade. See you there & Let it Shine, Your Pres., Wendy

The COAI Eight Clown Commandments

  1. I will keep my acts, performance and behavior in good taste while I am in costume and makeup. I will remember at all times that I have been accepted as a member of the clown club only to provide others, principally children, with clean clown comedy entertainment. I will remember that a good clown entertains others by making fun of himself or herself and not at the expense or embarrassment of others.

  2. I will learn to apply my makeup in a professional manner. I will provide my own costume. I will carry out my appearance and assignment for the entertainment of others and not for personal gain or personal publicity when performing for either the International club or alley events. I will always try to remain anonymous while in makeup and costume as a clown, though there may be circumstances when it is not reasonably possible to do so.

  3. I will neither drink alcoholic beverages nor smoke while in makeup or clown costume. Also, I will not drink alcoholic beverages prior to any clown appearances. I will conduct myself as a gentleman/lady, never interfering with other acts, events, spectators, or individuals. I will not become involved in or tolerate sexual harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or any protected status.

  4. I will remove my makeup and change into my street clothes as soon as possible following my appearance, so that I cannot be associated with any incident that may be detrimental to the good name of clowning. I will conduct myself as a gentleman/lady at all times.

  5. While on appearance in makeup and costume, I will carry out the directives of the producer or his designated deputies. I will abide by all performance rules without complaint in public.

  6. I will do my very best to maintain the best clown standards of makeup, costuming, properties, and comedy.

  7. I will appear in as many clown shows as I possibly can.

  8. I will be committed to providing an atmosphere free of discrimination and harassment for clowns of all ages to share ideas and learn about the art of clowning

AT&T SPECIAL PRESENTATION TO RNR

From Jim “Rusty” Gorgans

Chairman, AT&T South chapter Pioneers Disaster Team

For years the AT&T and Bell South Pioneers have made and distributed a small stuffed bear to agencies such as the police department, fire departments, hospitals and nursing homes to name just a few. This bear is given to comfort those in need and these vary from an auto accident to being placed in a hospital or nursing facility. Each bear is hand made by volunteers who dedicate their time talents and treasury to this project. This bear is called a Hug–A-Bear.

Recently the AT&T Disaster team adopted an old project and put a new twist to it and approached the Red Nose Response team with it. I spoke with the Vice-President of the group Bob Gretton a Bell System retiree with the project and he was very excited to have the Pioneers involved. My next contact was Jeremy Cohen founder of the Red Nose Response organization who embraced the project a “Red Heart Nose Hug-A-Bear.”

Several calls were made to the Bell South and AT&T South Chapter Pioneers to begin making these Bears which were to be delivered to the Red Nose Response group in Atlanta during the South East Clown Association convention. Pioneers have always been there to answer the call of those in need and these bears will be going to those truly in need.

Present at the banquet to make the presentation of the Bears were Mandy Fridge President of the AT&T South Chapter Pioneers, Frances Brooks of Bell South, Jim Gorgans AT&T South Chapter Pioneer Disaster Chairman.

Accepting on behalf of the Red Nose Response organization was its Vice President Bob Gretton. The number of Bears presented that evening exceeded 500. Pioneers look forward in working with this group of Clowns in the future.
