COAI News by Candy

Hello COAI Members!
I sure hope that some of you have taken advantage of the amenities that Clowns of America International has to offer.  I know of at least one Southern California Clown who has been entered for Clown of the Year.  I would also hope that some of you did your work and put in for the prestigious award “Excellence in Clowning”.  How about the Clown Week Celebration?  Did anyone keep records and send it in for the “Charlie Award”?  It’s not as hard as you might think and if you need help, you have several COAI board members right here!  Not just me, but Bonnie “Bon Bon” Love, the director of Membership is just as willing as I am to help in any way to explain how to put your packages together.  Unfortunately if you haven’t done it by now, you will have to wait until next year, but now you have plenty of time to work on whatever it is that you think you can be eligible for.  “Clown of the Year” needs to be someone you and other clowns feel is worthy of this great Award.  All anyone has to do is check out the website:  www.coai.org   and on the left side where it says “About Us” this will take you to all the information you would like to know about each of the awards that can be given out.  But if you need to talk to a real person, you always have me!
OH and I would like to remind those clowns again who may have forgotten to renew their membership or as an oversight, please get your membership in as soon as possible so that you don’t lose your COAI number.
Candy”Butterscotch” Will, SW Regional Vice President

Oct. 28, Sun. JDRF(Junior Diabetes Research Foundation) is having a Mega meet at UCI in lieu of the two walks they have had in the past.  Face painters and balloonists are needed.  They can contact me Uh O! (562) 693-1269 or UhOtheclown@AOL.com or Jennifer Garner at the JDRF office in OC.

Dec.1, Sat. Snowball Express (http://www.snowballexpress.org/)  This is a wonderful event for the families of our fallen military personnel.  Mostly kids, (from all across the country) the event is a heart-warming experience and we are privileged to be invited to participate.  At this time I know they will want face painters, I’ll check to see if they want balloons.  If we have enough clowns we will all get to do walk-around, eat and face paint.  It will be Oakley headquarters, quite a massive unusual building in Laguna Niguel.  I am the contact for volunteers so please let me know if you are willing to participate.  Please email me at pipsqueak@fea.net.
Thank you,
Ann Guenther

Festival de los Ninos

Daniels Mega Home Center in Anaheim hosted the 3rd annual Latino Talent Show, “FESTIVAL de los NINOS”, which was held at Pearson Park in Anaheim on four consecutive Sunday evenings from August 26th through September 16th. The talent was FANTASTIC! One 6-yr. old boy in a mariachi band played the trumpet and violin and was AMAIZING. And the stories could go on and on. And TWINKLES d’ KLOWN would like to personally thank all of the other clowns who answered her call to come out and “clown around” outside the amphitheatre before the festival started each night. Besides TWINKLES d’ KLOWN, the other clowns participating in the event were as follows: Diamond Lil’, POM-POM, BUG, POKA DOTZ, SILLY & HONEY. Diamond Lil’s granddaughter was down from the Seattle Washington area for one weekend and she was dressed up as a clown and came along as “BUG”. It was her first time as a clown and she was GREAT! Event coordinator Juan Luna did an EXCEPTIONAL job. And the last night he had the clowns who were present at the end of the evening go up on stage, first to escort some of the “winners” up on the stage and then again with the contestants and be in the group picture. And Juan presented me with a framed certificate for our “UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT” of the event. And La Casa Garcia Restaurant was an event supporter with Frank Garcia hosting an “after the talent show” buffet at his restaurant for the “worker bees” of the event. POM-POM, POKA DOTZ & TWINKLES d’ KLOWN were there and met the rest of the “behind the scenes” people who ran the successful FESTIVAL de los NINOS. They had a mariachi band serenading all that were present. It was a perfect ending to a VERY SUCCESFUL 4-week event. Hop on the “band wagon” right now to be part of next years 4th annual Latino Talent Show. TWINKLES d’ KLOWN will be collecting clown volunteers all year for next year’s event. It is something to put on your next years calendar.
Our club members have been getting on T.V. & Radio. During the FESTIVAL de los NINOS the clowns met Andrea/Andrea who has her own Hispanic children’s television/radio show on a Catholic Hispanic station. At La Casa Garcia restaurant’s “After the festival buffet for the worker bees”, Andrea/Andrea came up to we clowns and wanted us on her Television/Radio show (they are simultaneous) on the next Saturday, September 22. So TWINKLES d’ KLOWN & POKA DOTZ were on the show with some of the contestants from FESTIVAL de los NINOS. We were to talk about how we do Christian clowning. The show was LIVE and Andrea would speak in Spanish, translate to us, we would reply in English & she would translate in Spanish. We did fine and the station was very nice and professional. And Andrea introduced us to a gal who was in charge of a Hispanic Heritage Festival at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles in Los Angeles to be held on October 30th. As a favor to Andrea, TWINKLES d’ KLOWN would do balloons & POKA DOTZ was to do face painting. Well, POKA DOTZ got the flu. In the 11th hour, POM-POM jumped in for POKA DOTZ and she was the one who did the face painting. We were there from 12N – 6PM and everyone LOVED the clowns. We had tables in the plaza of the church and they had a stage set up with a whole musical program. Even Cardinal Roger Mahoney was there but we were tooooooo busy with our NON-STOP lines (can you all relate?) to even see him or the program. But we did get mentioned in part of the introductions on stage. It was a BEAUTIFUL event (the cultural costume parade was FANTASTIC) and we enjoyed being there. And a SPECIAL thanks to POM-POM for jumping in and assisting that day. -Pam “TWINKLES d’ KLOWN” House-

BAD BREATH?
For years I was plagued with "bad breath.'  So much so that more than once the young children I cared for in a group home situation, told me "Q, your breath stinks!"  and more than once my husband has had to ask me to "kill the dragon!"  Then I learned that just gargling won't cure bad breath.  You need to scrape you tongue, brush your tongue and teeth and then gargle.  Someone turned me onto Dr. Katz and his Breath Clinic.  You can check them out at the web site listed below.
Since we are in the business of being up close and personal with children and adults of all ages, I believe it is best for our image as entertainers to be the best we can be.  This also includes, not smelling of tobacco.  On a recent AFV (America's Funniest Videos) a little girl was on Santa's lap and she said, "Your breath stinks!!"
I will be bringing some coupons for California Breath Clinics
