Last Month

OUR AUGUST DEMONSTRATOR

Our demonstrator at our August meeting was "Gordon the Clown" who hailed from Rancho Cucamonga. He was showing us "basic twisting" and also how to present yourself when doing balloon twisting.

Since I began in Funny Business, I have heard from fellow members after a balloon demonstration at a meeting basically - "They went tooooo fast" or the main one was, "No one ever teaches the basics so how can we learn anything if we do not know the basics."

That is why I asked "Gordon the Clown" to "PLEASE DO SOME BASICS" for the people in the club who do not know them. And that is what he did. I got members coming up to me after the meeting thanking me for Gordon showing the basics in ballooning.

Sometimes we clowns forget what it was like when we were a "beginner". I learned basic twisting of animals from many people. But nobody really taught me the names and what the basic twists really were. I one time went up to Matt at All-American Balloon and asked him to show me the basic twists and tell me the names of each. And he did just that so at balloon twisting lectures, when a twist was mentioned, I now knew what it was.

So Gordon the Clown, THANK YOU FOR DOING THE BASICS FOR THOSE CLOWNS WHO NEEDED IT! And for the rest, I hope you saw also how to present yourself as you twist. - President Pam -

This Month

SEPTEMBER LECTURE

Burt Rosen will be doing lecture on "The Internet Friend or Foe.
Burt has had 30 years experience in the computer field as well as teaching continuing education classes. He uses humor to get his point across. One comment about a previous lecture for Funny Business was "I didn't understand all of it (the technical stuff) but I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture."

OUR CLUBS HOLIDAY PARTY

As we stated last month, we have to decide where we are going to hold our holiday party. Bring your ideas to the meeting so we can decide this month. We must get working on the party. And volunteer to help with the party. YOUR CLUB IS ONLY AS GOOD AS YOU MAKE IT! - President Pam -

BITS N' PIECES FROM PRESIDENT PAM!

Remember to always be cool in a child's eyes. Know all the things that are cool to their age group. This way you gain their trust and are a part of them.

Many of you want to try something new but might be afraid that it won't work. Just remember - "It's impossible to fail totally if you dare to try." Also - "It is better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly." And you may have a good show and you think you "don't have to change anything." Well. . . at some point, if you stay in the same general geographic area, some people may begin to recite your show, word for word. Remember to NOT BECOME STALE! Try something different. Once everyone has seen your show, what's next for you? Add some new PIZZAZ to your now stale show.

And ALWAYS -ALWAYS - ALWAYS be physically clean (yes, I saw a clown with dirt under their nails & people were turned off). And anything you bring with you should be clean. Your image will either make or break you. If you are looking for more gigs, remember to check your image. IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

WESTERN REGION CLOWN ASSOCIATION CONVENTION

This is now just around the corner. The convention will be held November 7 - 11 in Laughlin Nevada at Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino. Talk to President Pam, Vice President John Acuna and Treasurer Candy Will and others about the convention. Those who never have been it is an experience and you learn lots!

And President Pam takes a bus to Laughlin. Ask her for details and join in the fun going as a group to the convention.

COAI NEWS by Candy

Hello dear COAI members!
Over the last two years I have been the Southwest Regional vice president, membership for the southwest has improved by leaps and bounds. It has been mostly with the help of the Southwest Regional ambassadors and I want to thank all of the ambassadors for their devotion and I look forward to their help in the next two years. A reminder for those long time members and even the newer members, I have received a LONG list of members who have let their membership expire. . .Yes, it's true, some of you may have forgotten to renew, but it's not too late! Oh no!! Go ahead and send it your renewal now and keep receiving all the cool stuff from the "New Calliope" and continue being a member of one of the great clown organizations in the world!
Have a great summer clowning and I hope you have a Happy International Clown week celebration!

Butterscotch
