COAI News by Candy

Hello COAI Members!

So what did you do for Clown Week?  I know I had some fun at least for a couple of days.  I took red sponge noses to where I work and wore my own purple nose.  I also took a chicken hat with me and then gave out the noses to all the kitchen staff and took some pictures of several of the cooks.  There are a couple of the guys whom I think would be great clowns if I could only convince them to come to some clown meetings.  You all should see some of the pictures (I HOPE) in the next New Calliope.  Beary and I then went as “Bad Eggs Beary” and “Capn Scutterbotch” along with several San Diego All Star Clowns and went on a harbor cruise in the San Diego Bay, what fun we had as “Pirates” along with our clown pirate friend “Bo Copper”!

Just a reminder, if any of you have kept records and pictures of your clown week activities, make sure to send your notebooks to the Clown Week Chair:

 Jay "Fishbucket" Phillips
15 Ivy Circle
Bentonville, AR 72712

The deadline for Clown Week Notebooks is October 1, 2007.

Also there are several members who haven’t renewed yet.  Renewal time started in July.  Don’t wait too long to renew so you are able to keep your original number.

This year’s convention is going to be in Richmond, Virginia.  Things are being planned as you read this letter.  The Virginia Alley promises lots of fun and great education for all who attend.  Check out their website at:

Let me know if you plan to attend, I’ll do my best to show you COAI convention hospitality!

Happy Fall!

           Logo Red Nose Response

WITH MORE & MORE DISASTERS HAPPENING AROUND THE WORLD, RED NOSE RESPONSE IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER.

RED NOSE RESPONSE members in the mid-west and south are actively volunteering in areas that have been hit by natural disasters.  And some RNR groups are raising money for those that have been hit.

Right now, remember to be healthful in the heat.  Drink LOTS of water and make sure you eat things with some salt in them.  You do not want to get overheated or have your electrolytes off.  Pam

Festival De Los Ninos

Months ago TWINKLES d’ KLOWN, instead of Pam, was asked by Frank Garcia of La Casa Garcia Restaurant to attend the WE GIVE THANKS, INC. committee meeting.  Juan Luna who is with DANIEL’S MEGA HOME CENTER was a new member on the committee & Frank wanted him to meet a clown on the committee.  Per my suggestion, Frank had attended funeral of Bunny Richards, founder/head of the Volunteer Clowns of Orange County.   Since some of us clowns have volunteered with Frank Garcia for numerous years, he attended and found out all about clowns and was very impressed.

At the meeting Juan Luna asked if TWLINKLES d’ KLOWN would like to “clown around” at the upcoming FESTIVAL de los NINOS.  The answer was YES!  It is the 3RD ANNUAL LATINO TALENT SHOW and is 4 Sunday’s in a row.  It is held at PEARSON PARK AMPHITHEATRE at 401 N. Lemon Street in Anaheim. The event hours are from 5PM – 9PM.  The first Sunday (8/26) DIAMOND Lil’ & TWINKLES d’ KLOWN were there making balloons from 5PM – 9PM.  It was the first nite so the T.V. camera was there and the clowns were on T.V.  And TWINKLES d’ KLOWN talked to a Hispanic newspaper reporter.  The talent is AMAIZING.

Last Sunday (9/02) TWINKLES d’ KLOWN, POM-POM, Diamond Lil’ and Lil’s granddaughter from Seattle Washington area dressed as a clown and was “BUG” for the evening.  We passed out free tickets for door prizes/flyers from DANIEL’S MEGA HOME CENTER and handed out 11’ round DANIEL’S balloons.  The talent is GREAT and one 6-yr. old in a Mariachi band played a MEAN trombone.

There are two more weekends September 9th and September 16th (5PM-9PM) any and all clowns who want to go and assist, it would be appreciated and the people in attendance will LOVE it!  You do not have to stay the full time.  Even if you could come for one hour, it would be appreciated.  It is worth seeing all of the FANTASTIC talent.  If you have any questions, you may contact me, Pam House, at (562) 431-5785.  TWINKLES d’ KLOWN hopes to see some of you there this coming Sunday.  It will be well worth it!
